چکیده

Bottle grade virgin PET (polyethylene terephthalate) resin was investigated through five consecutive injection molding steps to simulate recycling cycles. Tests were carried out after each recycling to evaluate degradation, crystallinity (by density and Differential Scanning CalorimetryDSC measurements), hardness, and tensile and flexural properties. Consecutive recycling resulted in cumulative chain breaks caused by the material’s contact with degrading agents such as temperature, oxygen, mechanical stresses, light, and water. In the fifth recycling step, for example, the number of carboxylic end groups, an indicator of the extent of chain-break, tripled in comparison to the initial molecule. The smaller chains that were formed fit more easily among the larger ones, thus increasing the percentage of crystalline phase in the structure. These two changes in the polymer’s structure explained the recycled products’ final properties, i.e., the injected samples became progressively harder and more fragile in each recycling step.

Studying the Adsorption Behavior of a Disperse Dye on Polyethylene Terephthalate in Absence and Presence of a Nanostructured Hyperbranched Polymer

Dyeing properties of compounded polyethylene terephthalate fibers with a polyesteramide hyperbranched polymer were investigated in terms of their thermodynamic parameters, including standard affinity -Δμ⁰, enthalpy change ΔH⁰ and entropy change ΔS⁰. Results were then compared with corresponding properties of the virgin PET. The results showed that the isotherms were similar to that of virgin PE...

Kinetic of Disperse Dye on Compounded PET Polyethylene Terephthalate Using Hyperbranched Polymeric Additive as A Nanomaterial

This paper presents the influence of Hybrane H 1500 as a hyperbranched polymer on kinetic parameters of dyeing compounded fiber grade PET polyethylene terephthalate at boil temperature. C.I. Disperse Red 324 as a disperse dye was used for dyeing compounded fiber grade PET. The result was compared with corresponding properties of virgin PET. The dyeing rate constants and diffusion coefficients a...

Disposal Options of Bamboo Fabric-Reinforced Poly(Lactic) Acid Composites for Sustainable Packaging: Biodegradability and Recyclability

The present study was conducted to determine the recyclability and biodegradability of bamboo fabric-reinforced poly(lactic) acid (BF-PLA) composites for sustainable packaging. BF-PLA composite was recycled through the granulation, extrusion, pelletization and injection processes. Subsequently, mechanical properties (tensile, flexural and impact strength), thermal stability and the morphologica...

Recyclability of PET/WPI/PE Multilayer Films by Removal of Whey Protein Isolate-Based Coatings with Enzymatic Detergents

Multilayer plastic films provide a range of properties, which cannot be obtained from monolayer films but, at present, their recyclability is an open issue and should be improved. Research to date has shown the possibility of using whey protein as a layer material with the property of acting as an excellent barrier against oxygen and moisture, replacing petrochemical non-recyclable materials. T...

Processing and Characterization of Recycled Pc/abs Blends with High Recycle Content

In order to develop a polycarbonate (PC)/ acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) product with a high content of recycled PC, a low molecular weight virgin PC was added to recycled PC to minimize batch-to-batch property variations in the compounded product. Six PC/ABS blends were prepared on a twin screw extruder by mixing 50 wt% virgin ABS and 0-25 wt% low molecular weight virgin PC with 25-50 w...
